Dark Side of YouTube?

Yes! But no, it isn’t StarWars but at least it combines with it. A little while ago on Reddit, someone filtered information on how to change the skin of Youtube in Chrome to enable the material Design as is usual for Google and Droid, besides changing to dark the complete skin. Now somebody found the way to do it with safari and we will show you both ways here.

Tutorial for Chrome:

  • We open YouTube in a tab
  • From the menu, select View> Developer> Developer tool.
  • When you open the tool, go to the console tab and write the following:

document. cookie = ‘VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE = fPQ4jCL6EiE’

  • Press enter and close it to reload the page.
  • Display our profile menu and find the Dark mode option, we select it and once inside, we enable the mode.

Tutorial in Safari:

  • We load the YouTube page on a tab
  • First, we must have the development option enabled, for this, we go to the toolbar and select the option Safari> Preferences, then we look for the tab called advanced and at the end, we enable the option “Show the menu of development in the menu bar”.
  • In the newly enabled development menu, look for the JavaScript console to display it.
  • In the storage tab in the console, we look for YouTube cookies and we find the parameter VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, we proceed to delete it. (If it is not there, no problem we continue with the next step)
  • Then we go to the console tab and in the “>” we write the following:

document. cookie = ‘VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE = fPQ4jCL6EiE; domain = .youtube.com; path = /; max-age =’ + 100*365*24*60*60 + ‘;’;

With no spaces in between the words “document. cookie”.

  • Press enter and close it to reload the page.
  • Display our profile menu and find the Dark mode option, we select it and once inside, we enable the mode.

In this video you can see the step by step:

Well as this is the always trending StarWars theme, this is the way to take your youtube to the dark side, I hope it works and any query we are to order.

  1. Doesn’t work in Safari. Tried copying and pasting the above Javascript just like the directions and video showed but comes back with the following:
    SyntaxError: Invalid character ‘\u8216’

    is the above Javascript code typed incorrectly? Please assist. Thanks

    • Hi Jason, how are you? Thank you for contacting us

      Yes, in fact, there is a SyntaxError in the post. We added some spaces after the word document, it has to be:

      document. cookie = ‘VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE = fPQ4jCL6EiE; domain = .youtube.com; path = /; max-age =’ + 100*365*24*60*60 + ‘;’;

      With no spaces in between the words “document. cookie”. This is because WordPress interpreted this like a line of code and didn’t let us publish the post.
      We apologize for not explaining this on the actual post.
